I did quarterly goals for two years, back in 2017 and 2018. Surprisingly, in that time, I met most of the goals I set for myself. Like most things during my grad school era, I dropped quarterly goals and simply scrambled to keep up with every day life.
In an attempt to make sure I meet my new goals, I’m starting quarterly goals again. And, to shame myself into completing them, I’ve decided to share with you!
My Writing Goals
- Finish Draft 3 rewrites
- Send Draft 3 to alpha readers
- Figure out a title for Book 1
- Look for a developmental editor
- Outline Book 2
- Post 4+ times a week on Instagram
- Launch website
- Post 1+ blogs per week on website
- Start to research cover artists
- Learn more about video and photo editing
- Research indie publishing
I know that some of these have, obviously, already been completed — if you’re reading this, I’ve already launched my website. However, these goals cover October 1st through December 31st, 2024.
You’ll notice that some of my goals are for marketing. As most indie authors can tell you (and many trad published authors also know), marketing is just as important as actually writing your novel. Since I need to allot time and resources for marketing, I’ve decided to include those in my writing goals list as well.
My Personal Goals
You may also notice that I didn’t include any personal goals in my list. There will be some goals I don’t share online, but here are a few of my personal goals if you’re interested:
- Work out 4+ days a week
- Find an eye doctor and make an appointment
- Clean out my closet and donate some clothes
- Paint 1+ days a week
- Read 4+ books
Wrapping up 2024
The last few years have been wild for me. I’m so grateful to have found my writing flow again, and I can’t wait to see how these goals play out. When I present my Q1 goals for 2025, I’ll go over how I did this quarter, so you can keep up with what I’m doing and how far I’ve gotten toward publishing my book.
